If you’ve been paying attention to your health for any amount of time you know there are “healthy” foods and “unhealthy” foods.
“Healthy” foods are linked to a supported cardiovascular system, better brain function, a stronger immune system, lean body mass and more.
“Unhealthy” foods on the other hand are linked to cardiovascular disease risk, weight gain, metabolic syndrome and even certain cancers.
I’m not going to get into why “unhealthy” foods cause hair loss. Studies show that diets high in fast food and processed food cause hair thinning and bald spots. That’s a given.
But in today’s email I want to expose those sneaky “healthy” foods that cause hair loss.
Hair Loss Food #1: Swordfish
There are many benefits of eating fish, but there are certain fish that are high in the hair loss mineral, mercury.
Mercury interacts with other minerals in the body, most importantly, zinc. Mercury lowers zinc which is one of the most important nutrients you need for hair growth.
So when your zinc levels become depleted, it can cause hair loss. Other fish to keep an eye on are mackerel and tuna.
Hair Loss Food #2: Liver
Liver has gained some traction lately as a powerhouse food for your health. It’s the most nutrient dense food on the planet.
However, liver is high in vitamin A… and studies show that foods high in vitamin A contribute to hair loss. For example…
Beef liver contains 713% the daily value of vitamin A. Lamb liver contains 236%. Liver sausage contains 166% the RDA. And cod liver oil clocks in at 150%. The next closest food is mackerel at 43%…
So yeah, liver takes the cake when it comes to high amounts of vitamin A, and likely should be avoided to prevent hair loss.
Hair Loss Food #3: Rice
Rice is an “anabolic” food, meaning it boosts hormones like testosterone, and more specifically dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
DHT is the hormone that makes men bald and it has the same effect on women. About 50 million men experience DHT-related hair loss and 30 million women experience it as well.
The more DHT you have in your body, the earlier and faster your hair falls out.
Hair Loss Food #4: Dairy
Unless you’re getting your milk straight from the cow, dairy products can cause inflammation in the body.
Inflammation damages hair follicles. In fact, alopecia is an inflammation-based disorder that causes hair loss. On top of that…
Dairy products can clog up pores which prevents healthy hair growth.
So there you have it…
“Healthy” foods that cause hair loss.
If you avoid these 4 foods, and you maintain a healthy diet, your precious locks will live to see another day. So pull them out of your kitchen or eat them sparingly and you’ll keep your hair flowing and healthy.
